Victorian Britain used impressing heavily in hairwork and sentimental jewellery: steel stamps pressed scrolls, oak leaves and rope twist into thin silver, standardised across Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter by 80–120 t screw presses. Meanwhile amateurs were already rolling real objects—sprays, fabrics—directly in the mill, the historical ancestor of today's found-object imprinting. ---
