Thanjavur paintings (dating to the 16th-century Nayak court, GI-protected) shape deity crowns and jewels from 0.2–0.3 mm brass/copper foil raised from the back over dapping forms, chased to 0.1–0.2 mm detail, then mounted with natural adhesive and finished with mineral colour and 22K gold leaf. Workshop lineages run 4–5 generations; GI-certified pieces fetch 3–5× the price of copies, with certification hinging on foil thickness and hand-chased marks. ---
