The British Museum's studies of "bronze disease" (cyclic corrosion of basic copper chloride, Cu₂(OH)₃Cl) feed back into art patina: chloride crusts grow in warty strata and self-propagate above 55% RH. Artists built a "diseased green" recipe — a 48 h wet poultice of 3% ammonium chloride for warty basic chloride, spot-toned with 2% copper sulfide, then sealed and kept below 45% RH. It now reliably serves 1:1 sculptural replicas of diseased archaeological surfaces. ---
