Textual research shows the Song-dynasty Yingzao Fashi specifies composition and grinding for copper tiles and nails but no artificial coloring, while the Ming Tiangong Kaiwu records the 60:40 brass recipe ("six parts copper, four parts tutty"). Systematic verdigris making appears in the Bencao Gangmu: copper sheets buried in vinegar dregs and fumed warm-humid for ten days — the ancestor of today's acetic-ammonia verdigris (basic copper carbonate). Such sources give heritage-architecture patina work a documentary basis. ---
