A museum scanned a 1.2 m portrait bust with a handheld laser scanner (0.1 mm point spacing), scaled it 4% in reverse-engineering software, and printed segmented wax patterns, keyed and hot-waxed into one body. After 8 ceramic-shell coats the bronze was poured at 1150°C. Wall thickness held at 5–6 mm; 3D comparison against the scan showed deviation under 1.5 mm, completing in 12 days a reproduction that traditionally took over a month.
