Variant: Cold vs Warm Coining

Cold coining (room temp) gives the best surface and tightest size but needs high tonnage and cracks hard stock. Warm coining heats the blank to 150–300 ℃ (copper alloys), cutting flow stress 30%–50% and allowing deeper relief, at the cost of slight oxidation needing later polish. Hard silver coins prefer cold; thick brass medals can warm-coin to save press capacity. ---
