Make your own relief hammers from T8/T10 carbon tool steel: turn the head, heat in a salt bath at 780–800 °C, quench in water-then-oil, temper at 180–200 °C for 2 h to HRC 52–56 — harder chips, softer leaves smeared marks. Chasing tools can be re-ground from old files: anneal, re-grind, re-harden to HRC 58–62, 45° for lines and 60° for tight detail. Benchmarks: Italian moon hammers damp vibration well but cost EUR-level; a full DIY set is about ¥60. Weight the head-to-handle at 2:3, drilling and lead-loading the handle to fine-tune balance.
