Fold Forming in the Hongik University Metalwork Curriculum

Since the 2000s the metalwork department at Hongik University, Seoul, has run fold forming as a second-year core module: students first complete three compulsory exercises—line, wedge and star folds on 0.5–1.0 mm copper—then submit five derivatives from a "single-fold generation" brief, with anneal temperature and count logs required. That quantitative grounding in work-hardening links onward to residencies funded by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, making fold forming a common language among young Korean metalsmiths at international exhibitions.
