The Sthapathy lineages of South India chase deity plaques to the iconometric rules of the Shilpa Shastras: the main form is pushed up 8–12 mm from the back of 1.6 mm copper, then refined on the front with 20-odd liners for drapery and ornaments; a 300×450 mm plaque takes 2–3 months. Punches are forged and ground to family charts, heat and spacing passed on orally—the craft entered India's national heritage lists in the 2010s. ---
