Britain, birthplace of modern spinning, keeps a full apprenticeship in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter: four years starting with annealing, thinning and trimming, first years limited to straight cylinders with a single hand tool. The benchmark is a φ150 mm bowl in 1 mm brass without wrinkles and within 0.1 mm wall variation. The school's signature is the "backstick" — the body takes the reaction force and pressure is read by feel, a skill CNC cannot fully replace. ---
